The Great British Motoring Atlas
Make your own map →A geographical history of Britain's motoring age, 1900–1980.
45 places across Britain and Northern Ireland, in five layers you can switch on and off in the list. Tap a symbol for its date, status and sources.
Sources: each popup links its sources: Historic England list entries (coordinates from their grid references), official circuit, museum, manufacturer and operator histories, bridge and road authority pages, BBC News, and Wikipedia where noted. Where a source dates something differently, the popup says so. Map: OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap contributors.
Notes: a selection, not a complete census. Entries are places only; no road routes are drawn. Two museums opened inside the period (Beaulieu 1952, Coventry 1980). No scale bar: scale varies with zoom and latitude.
