Sometimes when it's a busy day, if there's a tower (like there is here at Northeast Philly), ATC will ask you to extend various legs of your pattern (upwind, crosswind, downwind, base, and final).
Sometimes, they get more creative. 360 degree turns to buy time and create spacing in the pattern! This was one of those days, and it makes for a pretty cool map.
